Tips to Make the Most of NFC Tags
NFC (Near
Field Communication) may have started out as a means to enable safe and swift
payment, but it expanded to be practical for many other applications, including
business cards. As more NFC-compatible phones are being made, NFC tags continue
to be widely used. Encoding the tags is simpler these days, too, as there are
apps and programs dedicated for the task. If you are not sure what to do with
NFC tags, here are some ideas and tips that can help you make the most of them:
·
In
your car – Is your car headset or radio
Bluetooth-compatible? Then your NFC tag will simplify their use. Program the
tag to switch the Bluetooth on, so your mobile phone can automatically connect
to the headset or radio to start playing your music. NFC tags can also be useful when you want to
automatically turn on your GPS navigation program.
·
In
your home – Place an NFC tag by the entrance door,
then program it to do actions like switching off Bluetooth, turning on the
Wi-Fi, as well as allowing your guests to connect to your WIFI with a single
tap (no need to re-enter the Wi-Fi password). It also lets you adjust your
smartphone’s ringing volume, setting up an alarm, etc. Certain apps may even
trigger the tag to revert the settings when you tap your mobile phone for a
given number of times.
·
Avoid
distractions – NFC tags can be used to set your mobile
phone to flight mode during certain times, like when you are working out or in
the office. Simply tap when you are done with your tasks. If there is a phone
dock on your bedside, set up a tag near it and make it disable your phone’s
notifications and sounds, decrease brightness, and enable the alarm.
·
Fitness
– Place an NFC tag in your gym bag or on your workout armband and instruct it
to launch your preferred fitness app to track steps and calories burned, and
play your workout playlist.
